What Is A Back to Back Installation?
On the Gold Coast, air conditioning is a must. With our hot and humid climate most of the year, having an air conditioning unit can make the difference between tossing and turning all night and having a good nights sleep. Even dropping the temperature down a couple of degrees and reducing the humidity in the air makes for a comfortable environment. It is important to be able to cool or heat your room or house effectively. As buying and installing an air conditioning unit is a big investment you need to do it right. The most cost effective way is called a back to back installation.
A back to back installation is also the cheapest option. It is used for wall mounted split air conditioning systems.
The indoor unit is mounted backing onto an exterior wall. The outdoor unit is directly behind it. Both the indoor and outdoor unit are back to back – as the name implies.
This is the cheapest to install as there is minimal amount of pipes, cables and drains.
Another option is a side to back installation.
This is when the indoor unit is installed in the corner of the room and the outdoor unit is installed perpendicular to it outside. The indoor unit is usually installed in the corner of the room.
Both of these installations have the air conditioning unit backing onto an exterior wall – this is because any water that forms inside the indoor unit must fall from the bottom of the unit. Having the unit on an exterior wall allows this water access outside where we can drain it to a downpipe or a garden.
